...Morning Area Forecast Discussion...
.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Saturday)
Issued at 304 AM EDT Fri Apr 25 2025
The mid levels will remain active through the short term period of
the forecast. 500mb analysis shows a strong shortwave moving through
the Lower Mississippi Valley early this morning. The shortwave will
move east through the day and should begin impacting the CWA during
the afternoon and evening. At the surface, high pressure is situated
across the western Atlantic. A frontal boundary, currently across
western TX, will move east through tonight and across portions of
north and central GA on Saturday.
Both the strong shortwave and the frontal boundary will bring chances
for showers and thunderstorms to the CWA through Saturday. There are
significant timing differences with the shortwave system for today,
so have just taken a blend of the guidance. There will be plenty of
available surface instability for thunderstorms today along with
some steep lapse rates this afternoon/evening. A few strong storms
will be possible, with gusty winds and small hail. Additional
thunderstorms are possible along the frontal boundary on Saturday.
There will be plenty of surface instability but poor lapse rates and
very little mid/upper forcing with the system. Locally heavy
rainfall will be likely with both systems.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday night through Thursday)
Issued at 304 AM EDT Fri Apr 25 2025
Key Messages:
-Drier and marginally "cooler" temperatures return Sunday into
early next week.
-Another front is more likely to bring increasing rain chances
again by late next week.
At the start of the forecast period, a cold front will finally get
nudged southward across the area Saturday night into Sunday morning.
This will serve to push deeper moisture southward on Sunday,
limiting PoPs across the bulk of the area. However, a weak midlevel
shortwave could interact with sufficient moisture primarily in
Middle Georgia Sunday afternoon to bring at least isolated
convection.
Surface high pressure centered over the Mid-Atlantic Sunday will
slip southeastward into the western Atlantic on Monday into Tuesday,
promoting easterly flow across the area. Only isolated PoPs are
possible Monday near the influence of the weak "wedge" front with
mostly dry conditions persisting into Tuesday.
The next front then looks to approach from the northwest by
Wednesday, though the initial push appears likely to be insufficient
for the front to enter the area. PoPs thus initially only increase
across northwest Georgia Wednesday before trending upward more
appreciably by the end of the forecast period Thursday into Friday.
Temperatures remain above normal through the period with the
relatively cooler days Sunday-Monday amidst easterly flow. A warming
trend by midweek brings highs well back into the 80s with highs
likely breaching 90 in some Middle Georgia locations by late week.
